UVic Vikes: Coaches

Dr Peter Vizsolyi - Head Coach
Under Vizsolyi, the Vikes have had seven athletes participate in the Olympics and 21 swimmers partake in various International events. Since 1983, Vikes swimmers have captured 247 National Championship Medals and 25 International Team Medals. During his time at UVic, the Vikes have produced two CIS Outstanding Swimmer of the Year awards.

Ron Jacks - Varsity Program Assistant Coach
Ron has produced finalists or semi-finalists at every Olympic Games 1976-2004, coached two Olympians to Bronze medals (Shannon Smith and Pam Rai), and coached two World Champion Open Water swimmers (Kim Dyke - 1993 Open Water World Cup Series Champion and Greg Streppel - 1994 World Open Water Champion). He has trained many of Canada's top swimmers, including Olympians-Paralympians Stephanie Dixon (multiple Paralympic medalist and World Record Holder), Christin Petelski (1996 & 2000 Olympic Games finalist), Nathan O'Brien (2004 Athens Olympics semi-finalist), Rick Say (Olympic Games finalist), Nikki Dryden, Wayne Kelly and Jon Kelly; Commonwealth Games athletes Danielle Bell, John Stamhuis, Philip Weiss, Suzanne Weckend, Dino Verbrugge and Anne Barnes; and FINA World Aquatics Championship Open Water competitors David Creel and Karley Stutzel.

Rod Barrett - Varsity Program Assistant Coach
Rod Barratt was part of the University of Calgary varsity system for many years, after which he became Head Coach for the Red Deer Catalina swim Team. In 1996, Rod moved to Victoria to coach for Pacific Coast Swimming, as well as to be an Assistant Coach to the UVic varisty program. Rod has been president of the BC and Alberta Coaches Association and has extensive developmental experience.
